Bioware and Electronic Arts announced that the highly anticipated release of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will be on March 21, 2017.
Aaryn Flynn, general manager of Bioware, announced on the "Mass Effect" website that they will be launching the game in North America, Southeast Asia and South America on March 21 and in Europe, Australia and New Zealand March 23.
"We appreciate your patience (and in fact, even your lack of patience in some instances) as we've been focused on completing the game," Flynn stated.
According to Flynn, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is the company's most ambitious Mass Effect game to date. "We're telling completely new stories, creating new characters, new planets, new species, and introducing new gameplay systems," he shared.
He also emphasized that for the first time, they are bringing "Mass Effect" to the Frostbite game engine, one that delivers a tremendous graphical jump from the trilogy to "Mass Effect: Andromeda." "To deliver on this, we're taking all the time we can to make sure you're getting the best possible experience," he explained.
Flynn shared developers at BioWare took home a version of the game during the holiday break and played as much as possible at their leisure. He said the feedback had been great, which helped them finalize the release date.
The game's new trailer features a significant amount of gameplay which focuses mainly on combat and a bit of cinematic footage. Tempest, the new ship, is also shown soaring through space.
Bioware announced on their site that the new game will take the player beyond the familiar boundaries of the Milky Way, 2.537 million light years away to the depths of the Andromeda galaxy. The player can take the role of the Pathfinder, leading humanity's search for a new home in space.
Flynn added that with the new game, the player can chart his or her own course, navigate the Andromeda galaxy to unravel its mysteries, discover vivid alien worlds, and lead the charge to find the human race a new home among the stars.
He said the player can upgrade and customize his or her gameplay experience with a deep and flexible progression system, and lead his or her squad into action-packed combat using advanced weaponry, special abilities, and more than a few new tricks.
